Basics, basics, basics—I can’t get enough of them. I remember a time when I used to wear only very complicated clothes (think: Dan Flashes for wammin in indie rock bands) but in my old age, I’ve come to prefer the unfussy.
Working from home, I’ve found that I can still look cute while feeling comfortable, and wearing more or less the same thing every day saves precious creative energy for non-getting-dressed things. I branch out a bit on the weekends, or if I go out after work, but for the most part, I live in these clothes. Oh, and I repeat outfits. A lot. Probably a big reason why I don’t post on the ole IG much anymore, but honestly? Chronic outfit-repeaters need more representation so perhaps I should.
If you’re looking to wear 10% of your clothes 90% of the time, look no further, because here are my favorite basics.
Tops
First things first: things I wear to cover my top. I have two tight options and two loose options depending on the mood for the day. It’s honestly as simple as that, I wish there was more to it but that’s it.
Dresses
Next: dresses. I love a good dress, and my weekend/going out dresses are certainly a little more fun and flirty, but these basics are the ones that get wear multiple times a week rather than maybe once a month like my less-repeatable dresses.
Bottoms
And last (but not least), the bottoms. These are just as simple as the rest but that’s what I like about ‘em. The best part of all of the combinations of outfits that I can put together with these items is that I can accessorize however I’d like. I love my gold necklaces, which look good with all of these. I can also change up the shoe game—New Balance sneakers, Chanel Loafers, or perhaps something in between? The possibilities are truly endless.
There ya go, here’s a start towards putting together your own sometimes-capsule wardrobe.
I appreciate this post so much! Basics make getting dressed easier, and accessorizing much more fun.
